Bereavement
Sue Ryder Grief Deserves Better
In the UK, we have a real problem with talking about grief. For many experiencing bereavement, revisiting old memories can be one of the only ways to cope. A moment looking at social media profiles, a final post, an old photo or video. For some, it's the answerphone message on a machine, or messages left and saved. Such memories are a powerful way to bring people back for a moment. But they shouldn't be people's only way of coping. At Sue Ryder, we believe grief deserves better.

Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS)
We are the only UK-based organisation offering peer-led support to adults impacted by suicide loss. We help individuals support each other, at the time of their loss and in the months and years that follow. We aim to provide safe, confidential environments where people can share their experiences and feelings, giving and gaining support from each other.

WAY UP
Way Up is a place to laugh with gusto and without guilt. It is a place to exchange banter and to share jokes – even very bad ones!
It is a place to share experiences.
It is a place to find friendship, to care for others as well as to be cared for.
It is a place to share support, to lean on others when you need to, and to allow others to lean on you.
It is a place where every member is entitled to the same respect and care without comparison or judgement.
WAY Widowed & Young
WAY is the only national charity in the UK for people aged 50 or under when their partner died. It’s a peer-to-peer support group operating with a network of volunteers who have been bereaved at a young age themselves, so they understand exactly what other members are going through.
WAY was founded in 1997 and now has over 4,000 members across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors
SAIF was established in 1989 and represents more than 950 privately owned, independent funeral homes across the UK.
We work hard within the profession to promote best practice and protect the interests of our members and their local communities.
Along with representing the views of our members at a national and local level we also provide training and education programmes to ensure they continue to meet the highest of standards.
What to do after a death
When the person you are caring for has died, you may feel very shocked, however well you have prepared yourself. You may feel confused and bewildered. Don’t feel that you have to do anything. You can just stay with your friend or relative’s body for a while. You may have many different emotions or you may feel numb.
